Miscellaneous interior

Commissioned panel

Before starting, I visited the location to experience the space. How does the light enter, which colours are already present, what is the atmosphere of the place? During a warm and open conversation, the clients shared what they were looking for in terms of colour, subject and overall feeling.

From there, I began painting a large piece of silk. After steaming to fix the colours, I felted the silk with wool. Finally, I stretched it onto a frame.

The moment a client sees the work for the first time is always special. There is always a slight tension. But it was immediately well received. Together we hung the piece and took the time to look at it quietly.

By working in many layers, rich colour blends and subtle details have developed. It is a piece that does not reveal itself at once. The longer you look, the more you see. The texture and small irregularities in the felt make the work continue to change, depending on the light and the distance from which you view it.

I look back on the making of this work with great pleasure.
