Artful Objects is a collaboration between Zsófia Marx and Ellen Bakker.
Two textile artists connected by a shared love for color, texture, and sculptural forms.
They first met during a textile exhibition in Amsterdam, where their individual work seemed to complement each other naturally. Years later, that connection evolved into creating objects together and developing the online Masterclass Artful Objects (see information at the bottom of this page).

We combine hand-painted silk and wool into unique three-dimensional textile objects. Ellen paints silk by hand on a stretched frame, after which Zsófia transforms the painted silk through an intensive felting process with wool into sculptural objects full of movement.
At the heart of our work lies a fascinating contradiction: softness becoming strength.
During the felting process, the silk remains clearly visible and vibrantly present, resting on the surface rather than disappearing into it. Through careful and selective felting techniques, each object develops its own organic structure and character.
Every object is entirely handmade and one of a kind.
In addition to creating objects together, we also share a passion for teaching, which resulted in our online Masterclass Artful Objects.
During this intensive and experimental masterclass, Ellen guides you step by step through her approach to silk painting. You will learn to experiment with color, design, and texture, and discover how intuitive brushstrokes can help you develop your own visual language. There is attention to technique, but also plenty of room for personal expression and your individual creative process.
Zsófia then teaches you how to felt the painted silk with wool into wonderful, unique three-dimensional sculptural objects. Through the interplay of silk and wool, objects emerge that are both powerful and poetic, each with its own character and unique visual language.
The masterclass includes live sessions, clear video lessons, and inspiring assignments. During the coaching sessions and inside the private Facebook group, there is plenty of opportunity for feedback, exchange, and personal guidance. All sessions are recorded, allowing you to work at your own pace. You do not need to be experienced to participate - curiosity and a willingness to experiment are enough!
