Discover the creativity in yourself and the surprising possibilities of experimental silk painting. During a workshop you will learn what the effect is of working with various transparent layers, making the paint flow, but also stopping the paint. You will be introduced to working with brushes, templates, stamps and other tools. But above all, you learn to intuitively fill the white silk with color and shape.
The workshops are given by Ellen Bakker in her workspace in Deventer (The Netherlands). Each participant has access to a large frame on which the silk is stretched.
You do not need any experience to participate in any of the workshops. The workshops are mainly fun and surprising.
The workshops offer a great deal of freedom to experiment. For example, you can get started with painting samples on silk fabrics. Or work towards a final product, such as beautiful, supple silk scarves, paintings, or fabric for clothing or felting (nuno-felt).
1-day workshop in Deventer - experimental silk painting
On this day you start by practicing different techniques of silk painting on a 55x55 cm Pongé silk scarf. The rest of the day you will work on a beautiful scarf, fabric for clothing/interior, paintings, or multiple samples.
The costs are Euro 95.00 per person, including a 55 x 55 cm test scarf, 120 ml silk paint, and fixing the silk. Coffee and tea with something sweet.
Since each student can choose which silk to paint on in the afternoon, the costs of the silk you use in the afternoon are not included.
2-day workshop in Deventer - experimental silk painting
During this workshop, you will spend two days working with the possibilities that silk painting offers. You can paint multiple silk scarves, paint silk fabric to make a garment or accessory, paint thicker silk for wllhangings, or make various test samples. Each student has access to a large frame on which the silk is stretched.
The costs of this 2-day workshop are Euro 190.00 per person, including a 55x55 cm test scarf, 240 ml silk paint and fixing the silk. Coffee and tea with something sweet. The silk you use extra is not included.
You can also paint a big piece of silk of 300x115cm in 2 days. You can felt the silk with wool on a return day. See workshop nuno felting.

A workshop day lasts from 10:00 to 16:30 with an hour lunch break. We start around 9:30 with coffee/tea (and something sweet).
Colors of Ellen is within walking distance of the station and the Centrum parking garage (10.00 euros per day).
There are many overnight accommodation options in the area and there is plenty of opportunity to have lunch in one of the nice restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
The silk cannot be taken home immediately, because the silk has to be steamed for a long time after painting.
