During the online workshops, you discover the creativity in yourself and the surprising possibilities of experimental silk painting.
You will learn many different techniques of silk painting. Like what the effect is of working with various transparent layers, making the paint flow, but also stopping the paint. You will be introduced to working with brushes, templates, stamps, and other tools.
But above all, you learn to intuitively fill the white silk with color and shape.
The workshops are given by Ellen Bakker from the Netherlands.
You do not need any experience to participate. The workshops are mainly fun and surprising.
This workshop is a hands-on workshop. We work together as if we are in the same classroom together.
You need to make a frame. A simple frame can be made from 4 battens, screws, and nuts or you can purchase a simple wooden picture frame.
You will receive a list (and a video) of the materials you need and where you can buy them and also a video about stretching the silk.
The most important materials are 4 colors of special silk paint, silk fabric, brushes, pins, sponges, and some more.
We use Ponge/Habotai 5 silk. This type of silk gives a beautiful result for silk painting and it dries very quickly. And because it is very thin, you can also use it for nuno-felting (Silk felted with wool)..
With the techniques you learn, you will be able to paint beautiful, supple silk scarves, wallhangings, fabric for clothing/interior, or pieces of silk for nuno-felting.
This live online workshop is from 5.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. (Amsterdam time) with a half-hour break.
This means that the workshops for participants from Canada and America are during the daytime.
The workshop is life and will not be recorded.
This online workshop on experimental silk painting is conducted in English.
After the workshop, you will have access to a movie about a simple method for steaming your painted silk at home.
The costs are Euro 149.00 per person.
